Important Notice about Educacy’s Tax Exempt Status

An Application for Recognition of Exemption Under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRS Form 1023) has been filed with the IRS. Educacy’s tax exemption is expected to be retroactive to the date of incorporation. Donors will receive updated receipts reflecting Educacy’s 501(c)(3) status as soon as it is approved, in addition to the original receipt that will be provided at the time of donation.

From the IRS:

While an organization’s Form 1023 is waiting for approval from the IRS, the organization may operate as a tax-exempt organization. Although donors have no assurance that contributions are tax-deductible for federal income tax purposes until the application is approved, contributions made while an application is pending would qualify if the application is approved. However, if the application is disallowed, contributions would not qualify. Moreover, the organization would be liable for filing federal income tax returns unless its income is otherwise excluded from federal taxation. For more information, please refer to IRS Publication 4220.
